1. What is the most exciting and energizing aspect of your current position?

Architecture is a puzzle, and it’s fun to figure out how the moving pieces fit together. Things come up, and you must adapt. As I’m going into my second year in this profession, I’m still learning so much – but it’s so exciting and satisfying when I’m able to apply that knowledge.

2. What was the last interesting podcast you listened to?

My favorite podcast right now is “How to Save a Planet.” It doesn’t directly relate to architecture but offers some insight into sustainable infrastructures and alternatives found throughout the world. Definitely good food for thought!

3. What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’m working towards licensure, so each time I cross off an exam it feels like a win. I am also very proud to be a member of Iowa Women in Architecture!

4. What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

Question everything and try to learn at least one thing every day, even if it’s not related to work. I’m blessed with some great mentors who share their knowledge (and patience). It can be overwhelming at times, but I’ve realized that they’re often still learning, too. As for learning outside of work, it’s funny how sometimes that comes full circle and back into projects.

5. We are Iowa Women in Architecture; who were the female role models that inspired you?

I’m lucky to have a few female role models in my life. My mom taught me to have a strong work ethic and has supported all my passions. My coworker and firm principal, Courtney Koch, is so encouraging and always up for fun in the office. Finally, my good friend and college roomie, Alyanna Subayno, inspires me with her curiosity and leadership.
